Design Process

Remodel and New Construction

General overview

After our initial meeting, we will develop a design plan based on the project perimeters set forth by the client. A second meeting is scheduled to present the design plan, discuss details and set up a timeline that makes the process easy and comfortable for the client. We are happy to work with a client as much or as little as needed to see a project through to completion.

Below is an outline of the process we follow for a typical design project.

Our first step with every potential client is a complimentary discovery call.  We discuss the project they have in mind, any prep work, what they want to invest, timeline, and any other particulars that lets both the client and ourselves determine if the project is a good fit.

In an initial meeting, we will listen carefully to all of your wants and needs to gain a clear understanding of what you wish to accomplish with the project. We will take what we learned from our initial meeting to create a detailed scope of work, determine a schedule, outline a preliminary overall budget of our time, and draft a letter of agreement to present to you. If this is a remodel, the initial meeting will include photography of all existing areas and establishing if there will be a contractor or architect involved. If this is new construction, the meeting may include the architect and the architect from whom we will request all drawings electronically.

After the budget and scope of work have been agreed upon, we will design new floor plans. If this is a remodel, we will also draft basic existing floorplans. We will begin to define concepts for finishes, appliances, cabinetry, plumbing, bath accessories, lighting, door hardware, and trim. We will order samples as needed, as well as create and assemble concept images of key areas. All of this will be presented to you in a comprehensive manner for input and approval. In this phase of design, all selections are pending, and purely meant to establish an overall style and feel for your home.

During this phase we will prepare all plans, elevations, details, and select all materials, finishes, equipment and fixtures. Selections for furniture, art and accessories will be determined and finalized.

Once all selections have been finalized and every detail is determined, we document this in drawings, schedules and specifications. Upon approval, these are issued to the contractor and any other sub-contractors for construction.

We will submit proposals to you for all furniture, art and accessories.  Upon approval we will place all orders.  We will be in constant contact with the vendors and shipping departments to follow up on the orders to ensure everything arrives on schedule.

The interior design project begins by meeting with the clients in their home or space for a design consultation.  During this consultation we will spend time gathering helpful information to create a personalized design plan. This allows us to determine how our client uses the space and how they need it to function.  Equally important we note color, style and architectural preferences. Listening to a client at this stage of the process is key to our understanding of their goals. We ask many questions, each helping us to formulate the right end result.  Each client is different, and we customize the process to meet their individual objectives.

The implementation process involves construction administration and site visits, as well as installation of all furnishings, art and accessories.
